Two new item numbers have been introduced specifically for ARVC from May 2018.

 

Subgroup 15—Magnetic resonance angiography—scan of cardiovascular system—for specified conditions.   MSAC Application 1432 (Population 3, ARVC)

 Benefits are payable for each service one occasion only in any 12 month period

MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING performed under the professional supervision of a specialist cardiologist or radiologist  who is recognised by the Conjoint Committee for Certification in Cardiac MRI at an eligible location; where the patient is referred by a  consultant cardiologist  - scan of cardiovascular system:

a)      for the assessment of myocardial structure and function, with dedicated right ventricular views and 3D volumetric assessment of the right ventricle, including reporting of end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes, ejection fraction and BSA-indexed values; and 

b)      the request for the scan states that the patient presented to the requesting practitioner with symptoms or investigative findings consistent with Arrythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) on the basis of diagnostic criteria, endorsed by the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

MSAC Application 1432 (Population 4, ARVC)

Benefits are payable for each service one occasion only in any 36 month period

MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING performed under the professional supervision of a specialist cardiologist or radiologist  who is recognised by the Conjoint Committee for Certification in Cardiac MRI at an eligible location; where the patient is referred by a  consultant cardiologist  - scan of cardiovascular system:

a)      for the assessment of myocardial structure and function, with dedicated right ventricular views and 3D volumetric assessment of the right ventricle, including reporting of end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes, ejection fraction and BSA-indexed values; and 

b)      the request for the scan states that the patient is asymptomatic, with family history of confirmed Arrythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) . 

*Relevant family history is a first degree relative with confirmed ARVC.
